Theodule Molisouix

He/Him | 46 Years | South Shroud

"We show consideration in the ignorance we pretend for one another."

The Chirurgeon from Issom-HarA country physician who has practiced in the Shroud for twenty years, Theodule is a reserved man who can be found making the rounds from Camp Tranquil to the Sylphlands as he attends to patients among the Redbellies, Coeurlclaws, Ala Mhigans, goblins, qiqirn, and sylphs. Although he specializes in midwifery, reproductive medicine, and childhood illness, he is also known to provide care for more general ailments, and it is common enough for someone to wave him down for a pain-relief tincture or cough syrup.Although he began his work in the Gelmorran neighborhood of Gévaudan, he has since extended his purview to those both above and below the surface who are turned away by the Hearers of Quarrymill. In doing so, he's found himself traveling further afield to procure supplies and herbs necessary for his trade, from the dusty roads of Drybone to the sandy shores of Limsa to the biting cold of Coerthas. The Neighborhood of GévaudanAlthough Gelmorra was once a sprawling underground city spanning from Amdapor Keep to Alder Springs, its legacy is now found in small, isolated pockets of Gelmorrans who cling to the name and cultural identity abandoned by their kinsmen when Gridania was founded. One such pocket is Gévaudan — a small neighborhood of Issom-Har found just southwest of the Druthers. Past the abandoned ruins and open caverns lies a series of tunnel roads and cul-de-sacs buried deep beneath the treeline, which Theodule and many of his neighbors call home. Some of his neighbors include:- Pascaleret Auberlaint, his ex-wife, Iolaine Darfonts, and their daughters Aurelie and Leonie
- Millicent Vilauclaire, a young pomander maker with a penchant for mushrooms
- Avenrhi Zanthella, an Ala Mhigan woman adopted into a Gelmorran family who acts as a season forager for those who cannot go to the surface
- Felixient Noirterel, a young man with fraught connections with the Redbellies
- Dianne Lundevidenoir and her parents Percevain and Marionne, who moved to Limsa when she was young and yet retain connections with the community
- Adelaide O'reiley and Marielle Francois, a local seamstress and postal worker, respectively, who live within the settlement at the Hive
- Ri'vha B'lhehm, a white mage from the clan of Menphina's Blessed with a complicated past
If you see them out and about in the world, feel free to greet them and say that Theodule sends his regards.

Testimonials
"I would not describe him as an exciting person." - Marielle Francois, local postal deliverer
"Occasionally. Mr. Theodule says quite a few smart things." - Felixient Noirterel, archivist and boarder at the Molisouix home"I wouldn't be the woman I am today without his guidance." - Millicent Vilauclaire, girl genius and honorary niece"Your friend (Theodule) tends the evidence, I'm sure he's well aware." - Avenrhi Zanthella, surface forager and longtime friend"Ya think Theodule was scary? He's my neighborhood's doctor, he's plenty nice...he helped me with a broken bone when I was little, once." - Adelaide O'reiley, Marielle's little sister and Hive local"You keep that heart of yours locked up plenty securely, don't you? There anybody at all, able to take ahold of that key? Or have you given it out already?" - Pascaleret Auberlaint, childhood friendArdeiane's Riddle"Take care, my child, beneath the trees,
Words quiet lest you raise enmity,
Pass silent underneath their boughs,
As water drains from pool to sough,
Though fane may call, be ill at ease,
Take not their fruit of potency,
For Gelmorra knows, with gods about,
To speak in whispers, not a shout."

"I am a chirurgeon, not a miracle worker"

RP Hooks

The traveling physician: Theodule is always interested in buying local herbs and botanicals to supplement his medicine cabinet. If you play a gardener, forager, apothecary, or alchemist, feel free to approach him and he'll be happy to conduct business. Alternatively, if you're interested in buying medicine, salves, or poultices, Theodule is always ready to provide.Greenwrath: As an older Gelmorran who remembers the wrath of the elementals from a previous umbral age, Theodule is strongly opposed to meddling with the higher powers of the Twelveswood and has a healthy respect (and fear) for the consequences of woodsin. If you play an adventurer who remembers when the elementals played hardball in 1.0, Theodule is willing to commiserate, as long as he's outside the Shroud where the wood cannot overhear. No Miracles: Theodule considers himself a man of diagnosis who works with pharmacological tools in a world where magic exists. If you're a healer, feel free to pick his brain on his opinions of battle healing ("A wasteful endeavor") or aether-based curatives ("Useful, for those who have the wealth to obtain them") if you want a spirited, if sometimes mulish, discussion.A fragile peace: Theodule is invested in maintaining friendly relations with the disparate factions of the South Shroud, or at least a tolerant, if uneasy, truce with the Wood Wailers. If you play a character from the Black Shroud, feel free to engage with him as a fellow Shroud native (he'll ask after your family, clan, or village) or as part of the enforcing arm of Gridania (if you don't mind him meeting you with polite suspicion). The Midwife (OOC communication requested for this hook): As a chirurgeon that specializes in reproductive healthcare, Theodule has experience with maternity support, delivering newborns, and providing a termination to unwanted pregnancies. Though usually not relevant in casual RP settings, if you're interested in exploring these themes with him please feel free to reach out to me, the player, OOC in tells so that we can discuss what you want to get out of a scene. Alternatively, if you have a Padjal or Hearer child you want smuggled out of the Shroud, Theodule is more than happy to help.

"I strive to always give an honest opinion."

Hey there! I'm PromptlyGoing, and Theo is an alt made with a group of friends who all wanted to start a Gelmorran RP community together. If you've spent time around the Aether RP scene, you might know me better through my catboy, Pylades Attica-Bou of the Farmers Attic or my Ala Mhigan catgirl, Temenha Tanria of the Tanria Traveling Teahouse. Theo is a character designed to be a supporting NPC in other people's adventures, and I'm excited for him to meet more folks in the wider world of Eorzea. To facilitate that goal, here's some stuff I would appreciate from my fellow players:1) Do not initiate conflict without checking in with me OOC first. I'm fine with Theo getting into adversarial or antagonist interactions, but I'm most comfortable doing so when a player has initally reached out to me OOC so I know we're on the same page, and that all tension remains in-character only. Thank you!2) While fantasy racism is alive and well in Gridania, I'd rather not spend my leisure time roleplaying microaggressions (shocking, I know). While I love digging into social commentary via storytelling and am not opposed to, say, references to the discrimination Duskwights or Keepers face, I'd rather not play that out in overtly offensive ways (e.g. don't call Theo or his friends weird fantasy slurs in-character).3) If you're interested in participating more actively in South Shroud RP, taking part in longer-reaching storylines than a single venue opening allows, or incorporating Theo into pre-existing backstory, feel free to reach out to me! While the sleepy suburb of Gévaudan is the creation of a friend group, I'm more than happy to engage with and support fellow players who have other storylines in that area. Thanks for taking the time to read, and see you in Eorzea!

"To be Gelmorran is to refuse to sacrifice our children for a place under the sun."

16 Summers Before the CalamityHe watches as Adreiane runs a hand over the clump of moss — crisp yellow leaves unfurling, color brightening, as if the tender growth were in a summer rain rather than a sunless windowsill in Gelmorra. "Just because life is quiet," the boy whispers, "doesn't mean it's not there." Theodule thinks of the sunlit cavern, the birds nest, a sparrow made of light darting from his brother's hands, and feels fear fill his heart."Ardeiane." He crouches down, holds his brother's palms between his own — his mother's youngest, her last child. "Ardy," he says urgently. "Let it be quiet. Ignore it, and let the wood speak to unhearing ears — if you listen, then it will not be satisfied until it has taken all that you have."Gelmorran ConjuryIf care is shown through ignorance pretended, then the Molisouix family has long been beloved — it has been a well-guarded secret that the children of House Molisouix are prone to being born with the gift of conjury, and the peculiarly Gelmorran way in which the family practices it has both saved lives and invited great risk. To practice Gelmorran conjury is to reject the pact made by Jorin Lightheart and those who followed him to Peacegarden when the foundation of Gridania was laid. To practice Gelmorran conjury is to eschew the elementals, and the powers of the Twelveswood which have terrorized the mortal men and women of the Shroud since the fall of Amdapor.Where the conjurers of Stillglade Fane draw on the abundance of nature to power their craft with pomp and circumstance, the conjurers of Gelmorra have adapted to using much smaller pools of available power, slowly drawn from the deep earth below the root horizon of the Hedgetrees or from the conjurer's own life aether. It is a delicate and costly art which allows for little in the way of excess — to practice conjury as the Molisouixes do requires extremely fine aetheric control and an acceptance of scarcity, where conjury is only used to augment the body's natural capacity for healing through effective diagnosis, apothecary, and holistic treatment. In the hands of a Molisouix, conjury is a scalpel, not a hammer.Occasionally, a child is born into the family with a gift too powerful to be hidden. Such was Theodule's younger brother, Ardeiane Molisouix, who was found by Hearers from Stillglade Fane while Ardeiane was accompanying his father on a hunting trip to the surface. Ardeiane was taken from his family against his will, and neither Theodule nor his parents ever truly forgave it. As such, Theodule has a deep seated rejection of Gridanian conjury and all it represents, particularly the way elementals take children from their families in the form of the Padjal, the Hearers, and the Wildlings.A Note From the Player
Congratulations on finding one of Theo's secrets! The existence of Gelmorran conjury and the way it runs in Theo's family is closely guarded knowledge, and has little chance of coming up in casual RP with him out in the world. In case it wasn't apparent from the page url, Gelmorran conjury as practiced by Theo's family runs on 1.0 pre-ARR skills (they don't get patches in Gelmorra!) with much of their ability to hide undetected from the elementals and Seedseers mediated by the suppression of aetheric signatures.
Is Theo in a constant state of casting Soughspeak? That would be telling :)

Theodule's Riddle"Though eras shift and skills may wane,
Gelmorran arts remain the same,
A legacy untouched by time,
Forgotten songs, hummed out of rhyme,
With lengthened stride and roaming paths,
May my soul remember yours at last."
